A Harry Potter theme park?

Yes, a Harry Potter theme park. At Universal studios, coming in late 2009. According to Warner Bros., as reported in the article, it will have "immersive rides and interactive attractions, as well as experiential shops and restaurants that will enable guests to sample fare from the wizarding world's best known establishments. Also debuting will be a state-of-the-art attraction that will bring the magic, characters and stories of Harry Potter to life in an exciting way that guests have never before experienced."

Well, I would take issue with the "never before experienced" part of that sentence. When I read, I experience things in my mind that no theme park could ever compete with. Or movie, for that matter. And in my imagination, the Leaky Cauldron is not full of a bunch of muggles with sunburns, cameras, cell phones and shorts. Still, I doubt I'd be able to resist checking it out! I love theme parks, and I love Harry Potter, so I would definitely be among the visiting muggles. (Not sunburned, though - I wear sunscreen.)

  1. I just heard about this at a bar two nights ago and I'm already planning the vacation :p It's a great thing that books are becoming theme parks! Sure there are Harry Potter movies too, but it all started with the books. I'm excited!

  2. It should be a lot of fun - especially since they got the same guy who does the movies to design the attraction. Wonder what Disney's frantically trying to come up with in order to compete? Something fun, probably - so it's a win-win situation for us! :-)

  3. I COMPLETELY agree with you! Goodness, does everything have to be a commercial? Is a theme park the only place to play? Is imagination gone forever? Oh, I'm so disgusted with a world which seems to constantly enjoy loud, materialistic, superficial events and must even make books a place for procuring money.

  4. i love the harry potter books. and yes, this will not equal my imagination. but who cares?! i'm totally prepping my wallet! the only way this would rock more, in my imagination, would be if i got to be in one of the movies, and got to work in and around the sets. but since that's not bloodly likely to happen: SIGN ME UP!!
